a note about the "non-CW'd food thing"

this was something i thought a lot about and made the decision based on the fact that CW'ing every food post on a food-based instance would be extremely detrimental to the user experience there

again, to other admins, feel free to silence the instance to avoid that content showing up on your instance's federated timeline!

everyone else: you can mute instances on your own! when viewing a user (for instance, me @mdszy) , you can mute the entire instance yourself

@mdszy @mdszy kith.kitchen made the same decision, interestingly. I dunno if I’m 100% on board - it still makes the federated timeline less safe for people with eating disorders or other food issues - but I guess I can follow the reasoning.

@mdszy @mdszy (Though on the other hand, I’ve never seen any of the porn instances make that argument about nsfw content, say.)

@ghost_bird I would certainly hope that you can see that there's a significant difference between porn and food.

@mdszy Culturally? Sure. In terms of consideration for vulnerable people? I’m still thinking. I follow people on kith.kitchen already, but some conversations I’ve had recently is making me think about CWs and community norms, I guess.

@ghost_bird again, like I said, I announced this well in advance and the announcement got a fair bit of attention, I'm literally advising admins silence my instance if they have a problem with it. Users are also free to silence instances on their own as well.

If there were a better solution, I'd use it. For instance, if I was able to somehow make local posts show up un-cw'd but when they federate out, they automatically get a CW applied.

For now, this is going to have to work.

@mdszy @ghost_bird

NIce idea indeed !
Technically it should be possible, shouldn't it ?
